The Museum's Collection includes 300 glass slides of photographs taken between 1890 and 1920. Reverend Alexander Macaulay brought a Sanderson camera (pictured above) with him to Middleville when he was a minister at the local church. He took photos of community members and local places. When he returned to Scotland, he left the camera in the hands of Russell Borrowman who continued to take photographs for many years. Learn more about this photo collection on our Collection page and our Photo Catalogue page.
Accessibility at the Museum The Museum is wheelchair accessible including an accessible washroom. There is accessible parking beside the front door. Two accessible entrances are available. Several chairs and benches are located throughout the Museum for rest spots. A wheelchair accessible picnic table is on the grounds. There is also a wheelchair accessible porta-potty on the grounds for use when the Museum is closed. Note: Plans are underway to make the main front entrance wheelchair accessible this season.
The Middleville and District Museum started in an 1861 stone schoolhouse in the village of Middleville, Ontario. The museum building expanded in the 1970s and again in 2013 to over 5000 square feet to accommodate its extensive collection of local artifacts which include a pioneer cabin, pioneer tools, horse drawn hearse, 1922 Model T Ford, woven textiles, agricultural implements, household items and an entire classroom! The Indigenous, Blacksmith, Cobbler, Carpenter, General Store, World War and Church exhibits are visitor favourites. The Museum is home to a large collection of local archival and genealogical records. Come step into the past and explore pioneer history.
